Since 1997, JPBMC members have performed historical re-enactments
of famous African-American Denver residents from the mid-1800's
to the early 1900’s. The Beckwourth Living History programs,
through partnerships with collaborating organizations, have educated
over 300,000 youth, adults and seniors about the contributions made
by African-Americans in the settlement of the West. Beckwourth Historical
Re-Enactors in authentic period costume portray Jim Beckwourth,
Aunt Clara Brown, Barney Ford, Julia Ford, Edward Sanderlin, Hattie
Sanderlin, Lewis Price, Frederick Douglass, Jr., Madame C.J. Walker,
O.T. Jackson, Minerva Jackson, Mary Randolph, Dr. Justina Ford,
and others. |
